The house is to be built using state of the art construction methods
and materials that are eco friendly. Local materials and labour are used
wherever possible to help the local economy and reduce transport costs.
The house will be very air tight and with high insulation values (SAP
rating 100). This means that heating costs will be very small compared
to most new housing. A heat recovery and ventilation system will provide
healthy air circulation to minimise heating demand and the risk of allergic
reactions to house mites etc.
The Tek Haus timber frame is a prefabricated structural insulated panel
system developed in the USA some 60 years ago. It is supplied by Kingspan,
who have recently built Centre Parc's new chalets in Nottingham.
The cladding and the windows and doors will be untreated oak allowed
to weather naturally.
The roof material is Zinc. This is a natural material, which will last
at least 100 years and is recyclable.
There will be a water recycling system to reuse water used internally
and from the roof run off.
